Black and white print titled “Ryde Esplanade” in lower left corner.  Scanned from original glass slide. Exact date unknown, but the presence of the Royal Pier Hotel on the right certainly dates this shot prior to the mid 1930’s

Black and white print titled “Ryde St. Johns Station 1964” in lower left corner.  The destination board on the right-hand side of the picture lists Brading, Sandown, Shanklin (partially missing), Wroxall & Brading.

 Full colour print titled “Steam at Ryde Pier” in lower left corner.  Saving the best ‘til last, this picture just about has it all, and most likely dates from around the 1950s.  Pavillion / ballroom / café / restaurant / roller rink / pub on the left, steam train coming down the pier, and a paddle steamer (most likely the Ryde or Sandown) approaching the pier head itself.  Superb.
