Ventnor

Black & white print titled “Ventnor Station 1963” in lower left corner.  The stationary loco is W36 “Carisbrooke” and one of the signs to the right reads “Jolliffe Bros Coal & Haulage”.  Taken from an original 35mm slide in my collection.

Lord Elgin

Black & white print titled “PS Lord Elgin” in lower left corner.  During her latter years she operated as a cargo vessel between Southampton and Cowes, before finally being scrapped in 1955.  Taken from an original plate glass negative.  Exact date unknown, but certainly prior to 1910 as this is when she was converted to carrying cargo.

Orsova 9 x 6 copy

Full colour print titled “SS Orsova” in lower left corner.  The date is 1973, and location is most likely Southampton.  Taken towards the end of her career, two years later in 1975 she was broken up in Taiwan.  Scanned directly from an original 35mm slide.

Festival of Britain 9 x 6 copy

Black & white print titled “1951 Festival of Britain” in lower left corner.  Taken from the South Bank, this view clearly shows both the Skylon and Dome of Discovery, as well as passers by enjoying the day.  An original image taken directly from the 120 (medium format) sized negative.

Last daty of steam Shanklin copy

Black & white print titled “Last Day of Steam, Shanklin” in lower left corner.  Taken on the 31st December 1966 - the last day that steam operated on the Isle of Wight.  The two locos running that day were W24 “Calbourne & W31 “Chale”.  Taken from an original medium format negative in my collection.

Leaving Wroxall Station 1964 9 x 6 copy

Black & white print titled “Leaving Wroxall Station 1964” in lower left corner.  This took a little pinpointing, but with a little Googling and a 1932(!) OS map I got there. :-)  Taken from an original medium format negative in my collection.

Mill Hill Station 9 x 6

Black & white print titled “Mill Hill Station 1972” in lower left corner.  An original image taken directly from the 120 (medium format) sized negative.  After closing in early 1966, the site lay derelict for many years until finally cleared in 1985 to make way for housing. The blocked-off tunnel still remains though! :-)
